bump bump

What’s life without some bumps in the road, right? Initially the buyer for our home had pushed us very hard to let him close on the 29th. We wanted the middle of May so that we would have very little layover between homes, but the buyer was adamant it be the end of April. Selling the house took priority, so we accepted his terms and began to pack like mad. On Saturday the Elders Quorum came and helped move everything out… couches, tables, chairs, beds, trampoline, washer & dryer, etc. I had already taken the children and moved us over to my parents in order to get settled in for the month we had before we could get into our new home. Craig was still camped out at the house in a sleeping bag on the floor until our closing date on Tuesday, and packing the rest of the household itmes like dishes and such.
Then the bump…
On Sunday we got a call informing us that the buyer needed an extension on the contract and could he please have until May 9th to close? (oh for the love!) After some discussion we let him have the extension but we insisted we close on the 15th instead, to which he agreed. So Craig hauled a few mattresses back from storage for us, and we moved back into the house, but only with the absolute bare essentials. We are all sleeping on the floor, some with a mattress, some with camp cots and sleeping bags, except for Finn who has a nice, comfy port-a-crib. Camp chairs have taken the place of our couches, and we take turns at the folding table in the kitchen with it’s 4 folding chairs. None of us mind it at all, and we are enjoying the empty spaces in the house with the kids playing endlessly in the large empty packing boxes we have yet to fill. Another bonus was that the sellers of the home we are buying were more than happy to grant us an extesion for our own closing date since we can’t buy the house until ours is sold and they needed more time to pack up themselves, so this has really worked out for everyone involved.
So I have been given a few more weeks to say goodbye to our house, and I can only hope I am able to get everyone all together for a final family pic in front of our very first home. That may be the trickiest part of all, but I will stoop to bribery if I am desperate, which I am. And I still believe that not all bumps in the road are bad, they just give us a new direction no matter how small the course adjustments may be.
