Korby, here she is on day 4. She refuses to wear anything else. It’s a definite hit. Again, thank you  :)

better

I slept in today and feel 100% better, Finn is recovered and back to his total monkey self, and miracle of miracles, after sleeping in all morning, Dylan felt well enough to go to the last half of school today after being up all night long throwing up. I know, sounds fun right? Oh so wonderful not being sick! I am getting our supper going now so that I can concentrate on sewing the rest of the day. I am feeling hopeful I can get everything done. And whatever I don’t get to, well, I guess that’s just how it’s going to have to be.

darn it all

Finn is just getting over being sick, Dylan is just starting, and I am on the tail end. Ugh. So frustrating. I had serious plans today. I have so much I need to be working on and so much to get done, and not enough time. The quilt binding is still giving me fits, I still have three patterns that I have not even begun to cut the fabric up for, I have four different doll outfits cut and ready to sew, but they are still sitting in a pile, not sewn, all along with about a kazillion other things that I desperately need to get done for Christmas. Pretty sure time won’t stand still no matter how much I beg.  Stupid time marching on. Oh for the love. Here is hoping you are faring better than I am right now. Maybe I can work extra fast tomorrow?

little helper

Finn decided the dishwasher needed unloading today. And he should be the one to do it. So he did just that.

I can only assume he has watched us load and unload the dishwasher a bazillion times by now, and he probably figured there wasn’t much to it. He’s right you know.

Except we generally prefer to wear pants when we are working in the kitchen, whereas Finn feels that pants are more of an optional kind of thing.

right now i’m…

…working like crazy to get my projects for Christmas finished in the next few days.

…trying to decide just which holiday treats to bake this year.

…feeling helpless that all I can do is cheer my friend on as she struggles through the last 2 months of an intensely difficult pregnancy.

…getting ready for our the annual family Christmas party.

…not sure if I will get it together in enough time to get treats made and delivered to my neighbors.

 …wishing I wasn’t a night owl.

…wondering what Anne is doing right now, and knowing that she is having lots of fun without me.

…having issues with the binding for the quilt I’m working on.

…trying to figure out the best time to wrap presents.

…wrestling Mathes to the ground, pinning his arms to his side, and prying his left eye open four times a day, all just to give him his prescribed eyedrops for an eye infection.

…wishing for a white Christmas.

…planning the menu for Christmas day so I can relax and enjoy the day with my family.

…wishing I was able to drop everything and fly out to visit with my brother and his cute family in California and then over to Texas to bug my little sister and make her knit with me.

…looking forward to many noisy rounds of Rummikub, Scrabble Slam, Pictureka!, Connect 4, Phase 10, and Uno over the holidays.

…still saddened by the unexpected loss of a long ago friend.

…thrilled with the sweet news from a family member that baby #4 is on the way and due this summer.

…wishing I was in town so I could wander through aisles of fabric with Korby, Heidi and Melly.

…wondering if I should make chicken tortellini soup or lasagna for our supper.

catch-up

It snowed and snowed and snowed and snowed all weekend long.

Much to my childrens delight.

Finn loved playing outside in the snow with the big kids.

And catching snowflakes on his tongue. Goofball.

After living in this house for over a year, we finally got the curtains put up in the living room. No more free peep shows.

I decided that starching and pinning every single snowflake on the garland was ludicrous and would take about a month to finish, so I strung it over the pine garland on the bannister. I like it.

Using string, tape, and a ruler, I laid out a grid over top of a quilt I’m putting together so that I could tie it somewhat evenly. I finished tying it last night and I plan on binding the edges today.

I made five loaves of Honey White Bread yesterday afternoon. By this morning there was only one loaf left. At least I know they like the bread.

The words that no parent ever really wants to hear…

“Mom! Mom! Come quick! Mathes is sick and he just threw up all over my bed!

Oh yes, he did. All over. *sigh*

on the brain…

Hooded capes and furry, satin lined muffs. These have been on my mind for quite some time. I want to make them for my two youngest girls. I have to make them. Have. To.

So I dug up some fabric from my shelves and started in.

One muff completed. Possible size revisions might be necessary next time, but over all it didn’t take long to make.

Now to decide between the neck strap, or maybe just a hand loop? And maybe a furrier fabric, or is dot-less minky the way to go? I guess I had better make another one…

blizzard

I have been crocheting up a storm, a literal snowstorm of snowflakes. Yep, I went overboard. What else is new.

I love how they turn out so fuzzy and soft looking, just like those big fluffy snowflakes you get sometimes.

It was just as much fun to make them into a garland.

Here is my do-it-yourself starch board I made with several pieces of cardboard, tape and some plastic wrap.  Woo, fancy! I soaked each snowflake in liquid starch then shaped and pinned them, and waiting for them to dry. It’s going to take me longer to starch and pin this entire garland than it did to crochet the whole thing. Funny.

(the pattern for the two thread-weight snowflakes on the starch board are ‘HERE’ and ‘HERE’ in case you want to try these.)

These snowflakes are simple, quick, easy, fun, and addictive. Want to have some snowflake fun too? Go ‘HERE’ for the pattern. It’s free, super easy, and you can either make single snowflakes or crochet them into a garland, its all up to you. Want more snowflake patterns to choose from? Go ‘HERE’ and hope you have fun. I know I am!
