tim gunn knows best

As I have said before, I am a laundry nazi. I am very, very particular about what detergents and such I use on my clothes. ‘Tide’ has long been a favorite due to the best stain fighting powers to date. Except these days I have changed over from using regular ‘Tide’ to the new ‘Tide Total Care’. Did you know that it really works? Seriously. No fading, no odd stretching, and no warping the way fits either. The commercial is no lie. Tim Gunn speaks the truth. Seriously. My t-shirts have suddenly gained 9 more lives and I can dry more clothing in the dryer without fear of fading or wash wear. Less work for me!

And I never would have tried it had Tim Gunn not been the spokesperson for it. Yes, I really am saying that I bought it because Tim Gunn told me to. Because Tim Gunn would never lie about clothes. And this is no exception.

Mr. Gunn, I thank you, and my clothes thank you.

  1. Funny you should post this, I was just reading a consumer reports article on this very product in the “office” at the clinic. Their conclusion is that while this is nice detergent, it’s not worth the price. They suggest the Tide 2X Ultra for Cold Wash (which costs 19 cents per load compared to the 45 cents per load Total Care costs).

They did say the Total Care protected the color a tiny bit better, but the 2X Ultra for Cold Wash cleaned it better over all.

  2. I read the same article several weeks ago, and they do have the same effect on colors practically, but the Total Care also preserves the elasticity and shape of your clothes. It’s a problem with my t-shirts washing into larger and larger tops and hanging really weird after only a few washes. The Total Care stops that. And I also can’t find the Cold Water Tide for high efficiency washing machines, I am not sure if they make it, or my local stores here just don’t carry it. Let me know if you ever see it as I have only ever come across the regular Cold Water Tide.

  3. Coming from a person who does ONE white and ONE dark load a WEEK, I have nothing to say on the subject except that my wash comes out just fine no matter which I use. (Mostly SA-8 or Liquid Tide w/ Fabrese.)

  4. Of course. I just got back from Wal-Mart, and guess what. They now carry Cold Water Tide for High Efficiency washing machines. Of course they do, right after I post that they don’t. I have been looking for it ever since I read that report weeks ago, and they finally decided to stock it now? Whatever. Anyways, I will still use Total Care since it addresses more than just color fading for me, which I need. But this is a good heads up for anyone else that is interested in the Cold Wash stuff whether they have a HE machine or regular.
